What is Honduras Pitch Pine?
Honduras Pitch Pine, sometimes known as Caribbean Pine or Ocote in South American countries, is stronger and denser than other pine woods such as Southern Yellow Pine, radiata pine, slash pine and others. It is yellow in color, but also features shades of red or copper depending on the amount of resin in the wood. Our Honduras Pitch Pine comes from our own facility in Honduras where it is harvested, milled, packaged and shipped throughout the world.
What can Honduras Pitch Pine be used for?
Honduras Pitch Pine is easy to work with and can be used for many purposes. It is a high-performance material, low in weight, yet high in density with excellent load-bearing and thermal properties which makes it great for light and heavy construction. Honduras Pitch Pine is used for carpentry, flooring, home and boat building, and furniture. It is also well suited for joinery, utility poles, railroad crossties, plywood and pulp and paper products.
How stable is Honduras Pitch Pine?
Honduras Pitch pine has a high sap content which makes it very hard for a pine. In fact it is 29% more stable than Oak according to the NWFA. Its availability and stability are what make it a perfect wood for flooring.
